In the U.S., we tend to use the word college to refer to higher education in general. For example, most people in the U.S. would say that someone is “at college” or “going to college” even if the student is studying at a university. This can be confusing for non-U.S. students and their families since the word ‘college’ can have very different meanings around the world.

When using any ranking system as an assessment tool, it is important to understand how it is formulated, as well as its strengths and limitations. In this post, I’ll give a brief overview of the structure and methodology used in the U.S. News and World Report’s ranking system. I’ll also discuss common criticisms of this system, as well as its usefulness as an assessment tool in the college choice process.

On May 14th 2011, current ELI 360 Communication Coordinator, Benjamin Skye, was awarded the Julius Olsen Medal award during the Hardin-Simmons Spring commencement. Graduating in a Bachelor of Arts, double-majoring in Bible and Psychology, Skye was presented with the award by Hardin-Simmons President, Dr. Lanny Hall.

Spring Arbor University communication professor, Mary Darling and Tony Campolo recently published a book titled, Connecting like Jesus: Practices for healing, teaching and preaching. This is the second book coauthored by this team of writers. Their first collaboration, The God of Intimacy and Action: Reconnecting Ancient Spiritual Practices, Evangelism, and Justice, was published in 2007.
