Experience Life International is committed to Matching Students with A Fit University

November 15, 2006
In the US some universities use a practice called category admissions which enables them to look at students through a set of definitions like class, ethnicity, major, etc. Recently the admissions dean from Reed College of Portland Oregan had this to say about the realities of application evaluations. The advice of education consultants to encourage students to apply to “reach” universities is like playing the lottery. There is nothing that will replace a strong complete application that presents the student’s capabilities, character and individuality. The dean writes, “at the risk of redundancy, I need to say again that there are no random or arbitrary decisions in selective college admissions. Every decision is discussed, sometimes again, and again, and again. Still, annually I encounter at least a dozen students who tell me some version of the following scenario: “I am going to apply to the University of Ultra-Selectivity and Prestige, even though I know I have no chance to get admitted. I know it sounds crazy, but maybe when the committee gets to my application, the dean will be asleep, or they will flip a coin, or they will stamp my file accept instead of wait list or reject.” Sorry to break your illusions, prospective students, but just as there is no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny, there is no random quirk of fate that will overrule the reality of transcripts, test scores, essays, recommendations, and institutional priorities.” – Admissions Messages vs. Admissions Realities Paul Marthers, Dean of Admission, Reed College At ELI 360 we recommend that you work diligently to complete your application packet and get it to our corporate office to submit your file to TOP QUALITY universities that will fit well with your desires and needs. Admissions is not a random event and we give you our word that with your financial capacity to pay for the costs of study we can get you admitted to one of the schools we represent.
